Pool Builder in Folsom, CA

Build the Backyard You've Been Waiting For.

Whether you're starting with a brand-new backyard or reimagining one your family has already enjoyed for years, CJR designs and builds custom pools and complete outdoor spaces around your property, priorities, and the way you want to live outside.

THE CJR EXPERIENCE

A Pool Is Only One Part of the Backyard.

Folsom gives us a little bit of everything from a construction and design standpoint.

In newer areas like Folsom Ranch, homeowners may be starting with a relatively blank backyard and the opportunity to plan the entire outdoor space correctly from the beginning.

In more established parts of Folsom, the starting point can be completely different—existing patios, mature landscaping, pools, drainage, trees, structures, and improvements that have been part of the property for years.

That's why our first question isn't simply, What kind of pool do you want?

We want to understand the property around it.

Where should people gather? How will you move between the house and pool? Where does the water need to drain? Is an outdoor kitchen, pavilion, fire feature, landscape, or larger patio part of the plan? What should be built now, and what should we prepare for later?

The pool should make the entire backyard better—not leave you figuring out the rest of the property afterward.

DESIGNED FOR FOLSOM PROPERTIES

Different Properties. Different Starting Points.

One of the reasons we don't believe in designing the same backyard over and over again is that Folsom properties themselves can be so different.

A newer home may give us the opportunity to coordinate the pool, decking, drainage, utilities, landscape, lighting, and future structures before much of anything has been installed.

An established property around Broadstone may already have mature landscaping and hardscape that needs to be incorporated, modified, or replaced.

And older properties closer to Historic Folsom and Scott Street can introduce another layer entirely—existing improvements, mature trees, access limitations, drainage, elevations, and the character of the property itself.

Those differences matter.

We look at the property we're standing on rather than starting with a pool we've built somewhere else.

DESIGNED AROUND HOW YOU LIVE

You Don't Need to Have Your Backyard Figured Out Before You Call Us.

Some homeowners come to us with inspiration photos and a long list of ideas. Others know they want a pool but have no idea what size, shape, features, or overall layout make sense.

Both are completely normal.

That's part of what our design and pre-construction process is for.

Maybe your kids need plenty of room to swim. Maybe a Cabo shelf would become the place younger children or grandchildren spend half the summer. Maybe you want a spa that you and your spouse will actually use once the kids go to bed.

Or maybe what matters most is having a backyard where everyone can stay outside together—dinner by the outdoor kitchen, music playing, kids in the pool, and enough room for friends and family to hang out without everyone being crowded into one area.

We help you work through those decisions based on your property, your family, your priorities, and your targeted comfort zone of investment.

BUILDING IN FOLSOM

What We Consider Before Construction Begins

NEW CONSTRUCTION + FUTURE PLANNING

Newer Folsom properties can provide an opportunity to think several steps ahead. Even if every feature isn't being built during the first phase, we can consider future structures, utilities, lighting, landscape, drainage, concrete, and other improvements before permanent construction limits those options.

EXISTING IMPROVEMENTS + ACCESS

Established Folsom properties may already have concrete, landscaping, fencing, trees, structures, irrigation, utilities, or other improvements between the street and the future pool. Understanding what exists—and how we're going to build around it—is an important part of planning the project.

ELEVATIONS + DRAINAGE

The pool doesn't exist independently from the rest of the yard. We look at the relationship between the home, pool elevation, decking, landscape, existing grades, and drainage so the finished backyard works as one complete space.

Concept to Completion

One Team. One Seamless Experience.

A complete backyard can involve far more than pool construction.

Concrete, drainage, landscaping, irrigation, lighting, structures, utilities, outdoor kitchens, retaining conditions, and finish work all need to come together in the correct sequence.

CJR provides one team to help plan and coordinate those moving pieces from the beginning.

That means fewer gaps between trades, clearer communication, and one company looking at the project as a whole instead of treating every element as an unrelated scope of work.

Why Folsom Homeowners Choose CJR

Outdoor projects become much easier to manage when the company planning them understands more than one trade. Here's what sets the CJR experience apart.

One Team. Complete Outdoor Spaces.

We design and build pools, concrete, hardscape, outdoor living, landscape, drainage, and more—so every element works together from the beginning.

Family-Owned. Owner-Operated.

CJR is a family-owned and owner-operated company. You work directly with owner Colton Ray from the initial consultation through construction—there isn't a salesperson between you and the person responsible for the work.

Construction-First Approach

Our background in concrete, excavation, pools, and complete outdoor construction helps us anticipate challenges, plan properly, and consider how each part of the project affects the next.

Clear Communication

We want our clients to understand what they are building, what is included, how the project will be approached, and who is accountable for bringing it together.

Experience Across Different Property Types

From newer construction where the outdoor space is still a blank canvas to established Folsom properties with mature landscaping and existing improvements, the starting point can look very different from one project to the next. Our experience across pools, concrete, landscape, drainage, and outdoor construction allows us to look beyond the pool itself and understand how the entire property needs to come together.

Quality You Can Count On

Our focus is thoughtful planning, proper preparation, quality craftsmanship, and doing the work correctly—not taking shortcuts to move a project along.

Colton and his team were EXCEPTIONAL in their work at our home. We had a big backyard of flat dirt and he helped turn it into a beautiful resort like feel.

Your Folsom Pool Questions Answered

The Details That Matter

There isn't one meaningful price for a custom pool because two pools that look similar in a rendering can involve very different construction.

Size and geometry matter, but so do excavation conditions, access, elevations, engineering, equipment, interior finish, decking, drainage, electrical, features, existing improvements, and the amount of surrounding construction included in the project.

A pool that's part of a complete backyard project will also have a different scope than a pool being built with minimal surrounding work.

We prefer to understand your property, priorities, and targeted comfort zone of investment before helping you determine what makes sense to design and build.

There can be significant advantages to planning the outdoor space before permanent improvements are installed.

A relatively blank property gives us the opportunity to think about pool placement, decking, drainage, utilities, landscape, irrigation, lighting, structures, outdoor kitchens, and future features together.

That doesn't mean everything has to be constructed at once.

It means we're able to make today's decisions with tomorrow's plans in mind.

Planning ahead is usually easier than cutting through finished concrete or redesigning completed work later.

Absolutely.

Adding a pool can be the right time to reconsider an outdoor space that has evolved over many years but no longer works particularly well.

We can look at existing patios, landscape, drainage, walkways, structures, trees, elevations, and other improvements and help determine what is worth keeping, what could be modified, and what makes sense to replace.

Existing doesn't automatically mean it needs to stay—and older doesn't automatically mean it needs to go.

The goal is to make informed decisions based on the property.

Yes. That's one of the biggest advantages of working with CJR.

Our projects can bring together the pool and spa, concrete and decking, drainage, landscape, irrigation, pavilions and pergolas, outdoor kitchens, fire features, lighting, turf, putting greens, and other outdoor improvements.

Instead of designing each component independently, we can look at how the complete space needs to function and be constructed.

We strongly recommend thinking about it.

You don't necessarily have to construct the entire property during one phase, but knowing where you're headed can prevent expensive conflicts later.

A future pavilion may require footings. An outdoor kitchen needs utilities. Landscape needs irrigation. Lighting needs power. Drainage needs somewhere to go. A future feature may need access that disappears once the pool and concrete are installed.

A good plan gives you the ability to phase construction without making each phase feel like an afterthought.

That's exactly the kind of decision we help homeowners work through.

A bigger pool isn't automatically a better pool, and adding every possible feature doesn't necessarily create a better backyard.

We look at the available space, architecture of the home, how many people will regularly use the pool, entertaining, children or grandchildren, desired activities, surrounding outdoor spaces, and overall investment.

Then we can talk through features such as spas, Cabo shelves, benches, steps, water features, lighting, and other options in the context of the complete design.

Very.

A new pool and surrounding concrete can significantly change the amount of hard surface on a property and the way water moves through the backyard.

Pool elevation also affects how the pool relates visually and physically to the home, patios, landscape, steps, and surrounding grades.

These decisions are much easier to address during planning than after construction has begun.

Look beyond the final number.

Ask what excavation is included, what equipment and brands are specified, what materials and finishes are included, how much decking or concrete is provided, whether drainage and electrical are included, what allowances exist, what is excluded, and what conditions could result in additional costs.

Two proposals can describe similar-looking pools while representing very different scopes of work.

Compare scope to scope—not simply price to price.

Choosing a pool contractor involves more than comparing designs and the final price. You're trusting a company with a major construction project at your home, so it's important to understand who you're hiring and exactly what you're being quoted.

Look at the contractor's licensing, insurance, construction experience, completed work, warranties, communication process, and who will actually be responsible for managing your project once construction begins.

Ask detailed questions about the scope of work. What materials and equipment are being used? What brands, finishes, and specifications are included? What excavation is included? Are decking, drainage, electrical, permits, or other surrounding work part of the proposal? What is specifically excluded? Are there allowances that could change later?

Two proposals with similar-looking pools can represent very different scopes of work, materials, equipment, and levels of construction.

Also pay attention to how thoroughly the contractor evaluates your property before providing a proposal. Access, elevations, drainage, excavation conditions, utilities, existing improvements, and surrounding construction can all affect how the pool needs to be built.

Don't be afraid to ask questions. A good contractor should be willing to explain what you're paying for, what you're getting, and what you should expect throughout construction.

When comparing proposals, compare scope to scope—not simply price to price.

A pool is a significant investment and a permanent addition to your property. Choose a contractor you trust to communicate clearly, build responsibly, and stand behind the work long after the project is complete.

You'll meet directly with CJR owner Colton Ray—not a salesperson.

Colton evaluates the property with you, talks through what you're hoping to accomplish, and looks at the construction considerations that could influence the project before the design gets too far ahead.

That direct involvement is important to us.

The person sitting down with you understands how the project will actually need to be built.
