Exceptional Homes Deserve Outdoor Spaces Built to the Same Standard.

CJR designs and builds complete outdoor environments for Granite Bay homeowners—from pools, patios, and landscape to outdoor kitchens, pavilions, fire features, lighting, water features, audio, and the construction that brings it all together.

DESIGNED FOR GRANITE BAY PROPERTIES

The Backyard Should Feel Like a Natural Extension of the Home.

Granite Bay has some incredible homes and properties. The outdoor space should feel like it belongs with them.

For some homeowners, that means taking a relatively blank property and thoughtfully developing the entire backyard from the beginning.

For others, it's an established property with mature trees, an existing pool, older hardscape, or landscaping that's been there for years. The goal may not be to replace everything. It may be to determine what's worth keeping and thoughtfully transform the rest.

Either way, we start by looking at the property as a whole.

How does the architecture continue outdoors? Where will people naturally gather? What do you see when you look outside from the home? Where does the afternoon sun hit? How will the space feel at night? How should the pool, concrete, structures, landscape, lighting, and other features relate to one another?

The best outdoor spaces don't feel like a collection of upgrades. They feel like they were always meant to be part of the home.

And with CJR based right next door in Loomis, we're proud to be designing and building spaces like these so close to home.

DESIGNED AROUND HOW YOU LIVE

Start With the Experience You Want to Create.

A complete outdoor project doesn't need every possible feature. It needs the right features for the people who will actually live there. Maybe you picture summer afternoons around the pool while the kids are swimming. A covered pavilion where everyone naturally ends up. Dinner being prepared outside while friends gather around the kitchen. A fire feature that keeps everyone outside a little longer once the temperature drops. Maybe it's quieter than that. Morning coffee near a water feature. Landscape that gives the property more privacy. Thoughtful lighting that completely changes how the backyard feels after sunset. Outdoor audio playing while your family spends an ordinary evening at home. Or maybe you have a larger Granite Bay property and simply know it could be so much more than it is today. You don't need to figure all of that out before you call us. We help you determine how you want to use the property, what matters most, what makes sense for your targeted comfort zone of investment, and how those priorities can become one cohesive outdoor plan. Because high-end outdoor living isn't about adding more. It's about making every part of the property feel considered.

OUTDOOR KITCHENS + ENTERTAINING

An outdoor kitchen should support the gathering happening around it—not become an obstacle in the middle of it. We consider cooking space, seating, circulation, proximity to the home, shade, utilities, dining areas, and how the kitchen relates to the rest of the backyard.

PAVILIONS, PERGOLAS + SHADE STRUCTURES

Shade can dramatically change how often an outdoor area gets used. Structures should be positioned around sun exposure, views, gathering areas, architecture, and the activities happening underneath them.

POOLS + SPAS

When a pool is part of the larger outdoor plan, we consider it in relation to patios, structures, landscape, gathering spaces, views, access, and the home rather than designing it in isolation.

LANDSCAPE INSTALLATIONS

Planting, irrigation, drainage, lighting, and landscape areas help soften the hardscape and connect the finished project to the surrounding property. For CJR, these elements are primarily incorporated into larger outdoor construction projects so they can be coordinated with the rest of the work.

TURF, RECREATION + PUTTING GREENS

Recreation areas should be placed where they can actually be used without disrupting the rest of the backyard. Turf, putting greens, sport areas, and open lawn can provide valuable usable space when incorporated intentionally.

PHASED CONSTRUCTION + FUTURE PLANNING

Not every part of an outdoor project has to be built at once. But if future phases are likely, we want to understand them before the first phase begins. Utilities, drainage, access, elevations, sleeves, structures, and future connections can often be planned ahead. Good phasing begins with planning the later phases before the first one starts.

CONCEPT TO COMPLETION

One Team. One Seamless Experience.

Complete outdoor construction involves a lot of moving pieces.

Instead of asking homeowners to coordinate separate pool, concrete, landscape, drainage, lighting, and outdoor-living contractors themselves, CJR can plan and manage the major elements of the project through one team.

That creates clearer communication, better sequencing, and accountability for how the individual pieces come together.

Coordination isn't something homeowners should have to figure out between multiple contractors after the project starts.

BEAUTIFUL. FUNCTIONAL. BUILT TO BE USED.

An Outdoor Space Can Be Impressive Without Feeling Untouchable.

We want the finished project to look exceptional.

But we also want your family to actually use it.

The best outdoor environments work just as well for an ordinary Tuesday evening as they do when the house is full of people.

That means thinking beyond individual features.

An outdoor kitchen should relate naturally to where people eat and gather. A pavilion should provide shade where it's actually needed. Landscape should soften the hardscape and complement the home without making the property difficult to maintain. Lighting should make the space usable after dark while also highlighting architecture, trees, pathways, and other details.

Pools, fire features, water features, outdoor audio, turf, putting greens, and other elements should all have a reason for being where they are.

And underneath everything are the less glamorous decisions that make the property work—drainage, elevations, utilities, irrigation, foundations, access, and construction sequencing.

Those details may disappear when the project is complete.

But they're part of what separates an outdoor space that simply looks good from one that was thoughtfully built.

Why Granite Bay Homeowners Choose CJR

Outdoor projects become much easier to manage when the company planning them understands more than one trade. Here's what sets the CJR experience apart.

One Team. Complete Outdoor Spaces.

We design and build pools, concrete, hardscape, outdoor living, landscape, drainage, and more—so every element works together from the beginning.

Family-Owned. Owner-Operated.

CJR is a family-owned and owner-operated company. You work directly with owner Colton Ray from the initial consultation through construction—there isn't a salesperson between you and the person responsible for the work.

Construction-First Approach

Our background in concrete, excavation, pools, and complete outdoor construction helps us anticipate challenges, plan properly, and consider how each part of the project affects the next.

Clear Communication

We want our clients to understand what they are building, what is included, how the project will be approached, and who is accountable for bringing it together.

Experience With Complete Properties

Some Granite Bay projects extend well beyond one pool, patio, or landscape area. They involve the property as a whole, with multiple outdoor spaces and layers of construction that need to be thoughtfully planned and built together. A pool and spa may connect to expansive patios and gathering areas. A pavilion or outdoor kitchen may require foundations and utilities coordinated before the surrounding concrete is installed. Drainage, grading, landscape, irrigation, lighting, audio, and other improvements all have to work together—not only in the finished design, but throughout construction. This is where CJR’s experience across multiple areas of outdoor construction makes a difference. We can look at the complete property, understand how each part of the project affects the next, and coordinate the details and construction sequence from the beginning. And with CJR based right next door in Loomis, Granite Bay is a community our crews are working in regularly. We’re proud to bring this level of planning, construction experience, and attention to detail to projects so close to home.

Quality You Can Count On

Our focus is thoughtful planning, proper preparation, quality craftsmanship, and doing the work correctly—not taking shortcuts to move a project along.

We are absolutely thrilled with the incredible job CJR did on our pool deck and surrounding work! From the moment they came out for the initial consultation, we knew we were in good hands.

Your Granite Bay Outdoor Living Questions Answered

The Details That Matter

It depends entirely on the property and how you want to use it.

A complete project can include a pool and spa, concrete and hardscape, pavilions or pergolas, outdoor kitchens, fire features, water features, landscape and irrigation, drainage, low-voltage lighting, outdoor audio, turf, putting greens, sports areas, and other improvements.

That doesn't mean every backyard needs every feature.

Our goal is to determine which elements belong on your property and then make them feel like one project—not a collection of unrelated additions.

Yes. This is one of the areas where CJR's range of construction experience becomes especially valuable.

Larger Granite Bay projects can involve multiple scopes happening across a substantial property. The pool may affect the decking. The pavilion needs foundations and utilities. The outdoor kitchen needs gas, electrical, and plumbing. Landscape requires irrigation. Lighting and audio require conduit. Drainage and elevations need to work across all of it.

Those aren't separate decisions once construction begins.

CJR can plan and coordinate the different pieces as one complete outdoor project, helping establish the proper sequence and account for the construction details before permanent work is installed.

For the homeowner, that means fewer disconnected pieces to coordinate and one team looking at how the entire property needs to come together.

We have the capabilities to take a project from the initial vision through the many layers of construction required to bring that vision to life.

Early.

Newer Granite Bay properties provide an opportunity that's difficult to recreate once permanent improvements are installed.

If you know the long-term vision includes a pool, pavilion, outdoor kitchen, extensive concrete, landscape, lighting, or other features, those plans can influence drainage, elevations, utilities, access, footings, irrigation, and hardscape decisions today.

In newer communities such as Whitehawk, planning ahead allows the outdoor environment to develop alongside the home rather than becoming a series of additions afterward.

You don't have to build everything immediately to benefit from planning it correctly from the beginning.

Yes—and sometimes that's exactly the right approach.

Established properties may already have mature trees, beautiful landscape, an existing pool, substantial hardscape, walls, structures, or architectural details worth preserving.

In communities such as The Boulders and Shelborne, the conversation may be less about creating a backyard from nothing and more about deciding what should remain and where the property could function or feel better.

We look at the existing property first.

A successful renovation should make the property better without unnecessarily removing the things that already make it special.

Absolutely.

The pool doesn't always need to be replaced for the backyard to feel completely different.

New decking, landscape, drainage, a pavilion, outdoor kitchen, fire or water features, lighting, audio, turf, gathering areas, and better transitions throughout the property can dramatically change how an existing pool fits into the backyard.

We evaluate the pool as part of the existing property and determine how the surrounding environment can better support it.

By establishing the overall plan before treating each area individually.

On larger properties, it's easy to end up with a pool in one area, a pavilion somewhere else, a patio added later, and landscape filling whatever space remains.

Each feature might be beautiful on its own but still feel disconnected.

We consider sightlines, scale, materials, circulation, transitions, landscape, lighting, elevation changes, and how one gathering area leads into another.

A larger property doesn't need to feel busier. It needs stronger relationships between the spaces.

By paying attention to proportion, materials, craftsmanship, and how the individual elements relate to the home.

More features don't automatically create a better project.

Often, what makes an outdoor environment feel elevated is consistency—the way the concrete meets the landscape, the proportions of a pavilion, the placement of lighting, how materials relate to the architecture, and whether the property feels intentional from one area to the next.

Quality is often noticed in the details long before someone can explain exactly why the space feels different.

Absolutely.

Outdoor kitchens can range from a straightforward grill and counter area to substantial cooking and entertaining spaces with appliances, refrigeration, sinks, storage, seating, and surrounding gathering areas.

But the appliance list is only part of the design.

We also consider where the kitchen sits in relation to the home, pool, dining area, pavilion, views, utilities, shade, and how guests will move through the space.

The kitchen should support the way you entertain—not become an obstacle in the middle of it.

Yes.

Lighting and audio are most successful when they're considered during planning rather than added after construction.

Low-voltage lighting can highlight trees, architecture, pathways, steps, landscape, structures, and other focal points while also making the property more comfortable to use after dark.

Outdoor audio can be incorporated around gathering areas, pools, patios, and landscape to make sound feel like part of the environment rather than equipment added afterward.

Planning these systems early also allows conduit, power, and equipment locations to be coordinated before permanent surfaces are installed.

Water can completely change the atmosphere of an outdoor space.

Depending on the property, a standalone water feature can create a focal point, bring movement into the landscape, provide background sound near a gathering area, or create a quieter moment elsewhere on the property.

The important part is making sure it feels appropriate for the architecture and surrounding landscape rather than added simply because there was room for one.

Whenever possible, yes.

A master plan allows today's construction to support tomorrow's improvements.

A future pavilion may need footings. An outdoor kitchen may need utilities. Landscape needs irrigation. Lighting and audio require conduit. Future hardscape affects drainage and elevations.

You can still divide construction into phases.

Planning in phases and designing in pieces are not the same thing.

There isn't one useful number because the scale and scope can vary dramatically.

A project centered around a patio, landscape, and gathering area is very different from a complete-property project involving a pool, extensive concrete, structures, an outdoor kitchen, drainage, landscape, lighting, audio, and multiple gathering spaces.

Rather than starting with a feature list that may or may not fit the investment you have in mind, we prefer to discuss your priorities and your targeted comfort zone of investment.

That gives us a better foundation for helping you decide where the investment will have the greatest impact on how your family uses the property.

Because the finished features are only part of what you're paying for.

Site preparation, excavation, grading, drainage, base materials, foundations, utilities, electrical, irrigation, structural requirements, concrete specifications, material selections, access, demolition, and construction coordination can all affect the scope.

Two proposals may show similar-looking finished spaces while representing very different levels of construction underneath them.

Ask what is included, what isn't, what materials and specifications are being proposed, and how the contractor evaluated the property before arriving at the price.

Compare the scope and construction behind the finished design—not simply the bottom-line number.

You'll meet directly with CJR owner Colton Ray—not a salesperson.

That's particularly important on larger outdoor projects because there can be many interconnected construction decisions to consider before the design is finalized.

Colton can walk the property with you, understand how you want to use it, evaluate existing conditions, and talk through what may or may not make sense from a construction standpoint.

Our goal isn't to sell you the longest list of features. It's to help you build the right project for your home, family, and property.

Beyond the memories, Hawks remains one of their favorite places in Granite Bay for a beautiful atmosphere and a special dinner together.
